Broken Back Seax Kit (Hand Made in Australia)
Carbon steel blade in Seax style, the "Broken back" style mostly recovered from England and Ireland, assumed used between the 8th and 11th century, but also found in Germany.
The kit consists of:
- Broken Back Seax blade, Carbon Steel
- R30 bolster (optional)
- Handle block in Australian Camphor Laurel (See options if wanting Moose or Reindeer antler roll)
- Vulcanised spacer material for between the bolster and handle
The blade is made from 1084 carbon steel at Hillbilly Forge outside Newcastle, NSW. Each blade is hand made and slightly different but about 28 mm high and with about 110-120 mm of blade length, stick tang with holes drilled for optional handle pins. The blades are 3.3 mm thick and has a scandi-grind and lightly polished surfaces.
If wanting a (possibly not period-correct) bolster, the R30 will fit with some filing.
Note that these are hand made in a rustic style and will have minor imperfections showing the time and dedication that went into handmaking each blade.
