  • Showing a forged stick tang blade in the file guide, the shoulders can now be filed down to be even for a good guard fit.
  • Showing how to use the file guide to file even lines in a guard or bolster. Clamp the guard to your scribed line and the file cannot bite into the carbide, enabling a straight accurate line.
  • Showing a blade clamped in the file guide and the bevel being ground on the platen. This smaller version fits easier on either side of the platen, here on a Noob grinder.

Description

Carbide Faced File Guide, Stainless Steel, 59 mm (V3)

Looking for a faster way to perfectly even bevels when grinding blades?

Want perfectly fitting stick-tang blades into the guard or bolster?

  • 4 mm thick carbides screwed on, HRC 78
  • Non-magnetic, steel dust does not stick to it
  • Stainless ,will not rust
  • All screws are recessed into the  body for easy access on flat platen
  • Accepts up to 59 mm wide blades, up to 20 mm thick blades

The file guide is used by clamping the blade between the jaws, enabling you to precision file both sides of the blade dead even using files or a grinder. The benefits are blade bevels starting perfectly even, and stick tang shoulders being dead square and even for perfect bolster fit.

Or anything else you need to file two sides to be the same on..

The file guide is in solid stainless steel, and will not rust when dunked in water during grinding to keep the blade cool. Steel dust will not stick to the non-magnetic steel.

The face is protected by carbide strips, which only diamond or other exceptionally hard tools will scratch. These are 78 HRC and very hard but: NOTICE ceramic belts can and will damage carbide. This tools is for use with hand tools, or normal aluminum oxide belts if using a grinder. The carbides are 4 mm thick and can be removed if required.

The carbide strips are recessed slightly down into the stainless steel for added protection. This way the strips will not be knocked off, or be under pressure when clamping a blade in the file guide. This also ensures there is less pressure on the carbide strip when clamping in a blade as they back onto a shoulder of steel.

The file guide accepts up to 59 mm wide blades, or to be exact there is 59 mm between the inner bolts (approx 2.3").

This "v3" is the new improved model released in January 2018 and about 90 mm x 14 mm x 45 mm in size, made from solid 12 x 12 mm stainless steel and accepts up to a 20 mm thick blade/guide.

The file guide has the CreativeMan.com.au logo laser etched on one side.

These are an excellent value little tool for the shop. It is perfect for aligning plunge lines or guard shoulders with minimum fuss and effort. Having a replaceable carbide bits is great if they eventually wear. Also being bolted down you don't have issues with the glue failing that I have had with other guides. And the price is great.

    Great product

This is the best file guide I have seen on the market. The fit and finish are top shelf. The fact that the carbide inserts are screwed on allows you to replace them should one become broken or chipped. After using the guide I plan on ordering a replacement set of carbide inserts to have as back-up. The fit is excellent giving perfect alignment. Also a 2 1/4 blade fits between the screws. I have been a knife maker for 20 years , this tool impressed me.
