The material in this pair is Desert Ironwood, a very hard and highly figured wood.

Desert Ironwood is perhaps one of the most highly-regarding of all woods in knife-making in the US, with its density, stability, and grain patterns and colors creating a unique combination of characteristics that’s ideal for decorative handles. Desert Ironwood can be hard to work, but in these scales the shaping is already done, only the sanding remains.
