Tomahawk kit

Ideal light axe for throwing, or general camp use.

Kit consists of

  • Forged Tomahawk Axe head with carbon steel edge
  • Hickory handle, ready for sanding and oiling

Axe head slides onto handle without any adustments required.

Handle should be hammered in further to make sure it does not slide off over time.

The axe kit is easy to customize by finishing the handle by sanding, oiling, dying, burning, etc.

The axe comes ready to throw, with a somewhat thick edge.

If wanting to sharpen it further, this can be done with a hand file, angle grinder or similar.

The axe head can also be customized by stripping off the black protective coating, etch the steel in vinegar or acid.

Axe head is forged, consisting of a hard carbon steel bit (5130 steel) in a head of non-hardened steel.

Axe head is about 15 cm long, the cutting edge is about 10 cm and the head is about 5 cm wide.

Handle is about 48 cm long and ideal for throwing, being straight-grained hickory and not too heavy.

The handle is teardrop shaped and tapers from about 4 cm at the head end to 2,5 cm at the handle end.

Disclaimer: This axe will hardly dent Aussie hardwood so not a great candidate for firewood chopping :)

And like all carbon steel tools, it will rust if left wet.

One handle did not pair well with axe head or the axe head was misshapen but pleased with the good fitting one.

    Fun and Simple Kit

Obviously very simple process to put together the handle/head suitably but this kit leaves room to play and endless options to customise with wood and steel etching, engraving, binding, etc.
